Turn Your Home into a Charming Beach Cottage

Created Date: 2014-05-19

Most of us love the beach, right? It’s relaxing, warm and we can lie in the sand or swim in the blue waters. Unfortunately we’re not all able to visit the ocean every day, so for those of us who are craving a seaside break but are unable to go, here are a few simple ways to bring a beach feel to your home.

Shell CandlesShell Jar

Shells are great decorations to bring a coastal feel into the home, for obvious reasons. Find everyday items with shell embellishments, like the candle above, for a more subtle look or fill decorative jars with shells and sand dollars for a pretty decoration on a shelf or countertop.

Blue WindowBlue Lantern

Focus on shades of blue and green for an ocean-inspired, relaxing look. A hanging blue lantern like this one will look great outside or in, and is a subtle hint at a beach theme. Similarly, the window display above is not too obvious, but the various shades of blue glass are reminiscent of the seaside.

Mermaid Bath

A birdbath with shells and a mermaid, like the one above, is a great way to set the tone of a beach cottage from the outside. The subtle stone material keeps the birdbath from looking too gaudy, so make sure to pay attention to the material you choose when looking for outdoor beach decorations.
