The best way to approach decorating your exterior space is to think of it as an outdoor room. This strategy will give you another opportunity to express yourself creatively through your décor. You can start from the ground up—literally. Is the ground mostly covered in grass? If so, would you like to keep it that way or would you like to create separate “rooms,” with a hard surface material in one area and grass or plantings in another? Is the space all one level? You might like the look of different heights, with a step up from the dining or pool area to a living-room area with sofas, chairs and a fireplace. Add interesting accents, such as birdbaths and birdhouses, fabric lanterns, statues, a chandelier hanging from a tree limb—and plenty of sitting nooks to enjoy being surrounded by the beauty of nature.
